The mission of the DEFA Foundation is to preserve the films of DEFA, the former East German film studios, and oversee their use for the public good as part of Germany's national cultural heritage. For Infinite Opportunities, the German Year in India, DEFA has brought a series of films from their archive to several Indian cities, which illustrate the social, political and historical implications of the rise and fall of the Berlin Wall during the 20th century. The retrospective explores in particular how the wall, to this day, epitomizes various kinds of artificial barriers, literal or otherwise, separating people around the globe.
The program commenced with the screening of the film 'The Invisible Frame' followed by the release of the book 'The Tale of My Exile - Twelve Years in the Andamans'. A power point presentation by Prof. Mohanty which mainly focussed about the life of Barindra Kumar Ghose followed the release.
An introduction to the book by Dr. Vithal Rajan, readings of a few passages from the book by Prof. Mohan Ramanan, Shankar Melkote, Vijay Marur and Uma Magal, and finally a vote of thanks by Mr. Subba Rao from Sri Aurobindo Society Hyderabad followed.
The programme continued with the screening of the film 'The Architects' .
