Tina's mouth, filmmaker Keshni Kashyap's new book,

Keshni Kashyap's "Tina's Mouth: An Existential Comic Diary" Tina's Mouth – $20.00 per book About the Author Raised in Los Angeles, Keshni Kashyap studied literature at Berkeley and film at UCLA. Her films have been screened in more than forty festivals around the world including a short film at the IAAC Film Festival (now NYIFF). Tina's Mouth: An Existential Comic Diary (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) is her first book and a collaboration with Los Angeles-based Japanese painter Mari Araki. Kashyap lives in New York and is at work on two new projects. She is also an occasional contributor to the Daily Beast. Contact: Summer Smith Publicity Manager summer.smith@hmhpub.com From filmmaker Keshni Kashyap comes the story of a high school heroine—funny, wise, and reminiscent of Persepolis's Marjane Satrapi—negotiating an existentially trying spring semester at her Southern California prep school. Sophomore Tina Malhotra is a wry and endearing observer of the cliques and mores of Yarborough Academy and the foibles of her Southern California intellectual Indian family. After an English honors class assignment to keep an existential diary, she's on a first-name basis with Jean-Paul Sartre. She looks to the great philosopher for help when Alex, her best friend and longtime smart-girl ally, dumps her for a new group—with whom, per Tina, "Alex could discuss slutty clothes and cheesey poetry." Weekdays eating lunch alone on her Bench of Existential Solitude and a little nudge from her hippie teacher drive her to make decisions that will change the course of her semester—and lead her to her first “technical” and real kisses. Kashyap's smart and funny graphic novel illustrates the tricky world of high school while wrestling with those bigger questions. In TINA’S MOUTH, our heroine contemplates her place in the world, what a heavenly and mysterious expanse might be, and what it all means on her path to enlightenment—all before the spring formal. Keshni Kashyap is a filmmaker whose five short films have been screened in more than forty festivals around the world. She contributes to the Daily Beast. She lives in New York City. Illustrator Mari Araki, an artist and storyteller, lives in Los Angeles. TINA’S MOUTH by Keshni Kashyap Illustrated by Mari Araki Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publication date: January 3, 2012 ISBN: 978-0-618-94519-1 · $18.95 hardcover · E-Book ISBN: 978-0-547-60786-3

About the Book- What drives a young woman raised in a postwar New York City suburb to convert to Islam, abandon her country and Jewish faith, and embrace a life of exile in Pakistan? The Convert tells the story of how Margaret Marcus of Larchmont became Maryam Jameelah of Lahore, one of the most trenchant and celebrated voices of Islam's argument with the West. A cache of Maryam's letters to her parents in the archives of The New York Public Library sends acclaimed biographer Deborah Baker on her own odyssey into the labyrinthine heart of 20th century Islam. Casting a shadow over these letters is the enigmatic figure of Mawlana Abul Ala Mawdudi, both Maryam's adoptive father and mentor, and the man who laid the intellectual foundations for militant political Islam. Some of the questions Deborah raises as she attempts to understand Maryam’s journey are how, did the cold war devolve into the war on terror? Is the argument between Islam and the West a metaphysical one or a historical one? Is Maryam's story just another bleak chapter in the so-called clash of civilizations? Or does it signify something else entirely? And then there's this: is the life depicted in Maryam's letters home and in her books an honest reflection of the one she lived? Deborah Baker has written three books prior to The Convert- Making a Farm: The Life of Robert Bly, In Extremis: The Life of Laura Riding- which was shortlisted for the Pulitzer Prize in Biography in 1994, and A Blue Hand: The Beats in India. In 2008-2009, she was a Fellow at the Dorothy and Lewis C. Cullman Center for Writers and Scholars at The New York Public Library. There she researched and wrote The Convert: A Tale of Exile and Extremism, a narrative account of the life of an American convert to Islam, drawing on letters on deposit in the library’s manuscript division Shahid Amin is Professor of History at the University of Delhi. Transforming Capitalism:Improving the world for everyone-Arun Maira

Transforming Capitalism: Improving the World for Everyone is a radical argument for changing the role of business corporations in society. Arun Maira’s insightful essays and well-written case studies present a well-constructed argument for reevaluating the purpose of business. His unique perspective is invaluable as capitalism and its impact on human development is being questioned across the world. It is a book relevant not only to leaders, managers, and students but to everyone concerned with the need for transforming dominant paradigms of reckless capitalism to make growth more inclusive. The insights Arun Maira presents in his book come from fifty years of extensive engagement with business practices and government policy, in a time of rapid evolution about the ideas of capitalism and business responsibility. He has written extensively on these topics in numerous business journals and books About The Author: ARUN MAIRA is currently a Member of the Planning Commission, Government of India. For 25 years he had hands-on leadership experience with the Tata Administrative Service and was on the Board of Tata Motors, a business group well known for its orientation towards responsible business. This was followed by twenty years as an advisor and consultant to global business associations in industries ranging from automobiles, steel, and oil, to pharmaceuticals, and financial services. He has also advised Governments and international agencies on leadership processes to accelerate development. On his return to India he spent eight years as the Chairman of the Boston Consulting Group and served on the boards of several Indian and international business and educational institutions. He has been an advocate of the responsibility of business managers extending beyond that owed to shareholders long before the recent surge of interest in this idea, arising from his unusual combination of experiences.
