About the book:
Ramayana: The Game of Life (Book 1), one of the world's great literary masterpieces, skillfully retold for modern audiences. Epics like the Ramayana have been recounted infinite times. Is there a need for another chronicle in the presence of so many? How is this one different? And is it relevant to our ever-changing modern lives?

Displaying Kavita Seth at the book launch.JPG
Yes, there is a need, yes this is different and yes, it is relevant. This new series of books, each following one khand of the Ramayana, decodes the eternal wisdom of that poetic scripture through gripping narrative and thought-provoking instruction. In the time-honored custom of spreading wisdom through tales, every fascinating story in the epic is retold here and every character unfolded to captivate your heart and open your mind to lifes deepest questions.
The narrative closely follows Valmikis Ramayana, gently weaving in folk tales as well as the beautiful analogies of the Kamba Ramayana. The first of this six-volume series, Rise of the Sun Prince, takes you through the divine story of Lord Rama from His birth up to His marriage. Through these pages are revealed the tales of Dasarathas leadership, Vishwamitras quest for power and the intriguing story of a little-known stone maiden. Ramayana: The Game of Life has all of this and much more - food for contemporary thought drawn from an enduring masterpiece.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Beyond the hill stations, the mall roads and the ‘points’ is the ‘other Himalaya’. A Himalaya where flowers bloom in the green rolling meadows, the streams are bubbly, no pedal boats ply in the lakes, the glaciers can be felt and the passes crossed to more magical lands (where you might find flying lamas too). It’s the real Himalaya and it’s the real stories from the travels of people like you and me in this Himalaya that make this book.
The grand plan is that the next time you are looking for a family vacation or an adventure trek or a soul-searching solo trip, these stories from different regions of Indian Himalaya will provide you a few more options to choose from.
There is also a special chapter by Rujuta Diwekar, India’s top fitness professional, on why you must trek, the physiological benefits for your body and what to eat to get the best out of your Himalayan trek.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
After gazing at the Himalaya for 21 years from his village near the Shivalik foothills, Gaurav Punj figured what to do in the mountains once he started hiking in the Yosemite national park while studying at University of California, Berkeley. He completed his Masters in Engineering (Operations Research), worked for about 4 years in the big bad corporate world and after his leave count dipped to negative 50, quit and started his venture, Connect with Himalaya, in 2008. It’s as good an excuse he could find for traveling to new and unexplored places in the Indian Himalaya, meet and work with genuine local organizations and do his bit to spread the word.

On Sunday 8th December Shahrukh Khan released Deanne Panday’s new book Shut Up and Train, for which he has also written a foreword, at the Palladium Hotel, Lower Parel
“Being fit is important in my line of work. To be able to work for 12 hours a day—from 7 in the morning to 7 in the evening—you need to have a certain level of fitness...But to develop physical strength, you first need to have mental strength. I always tell my children you don’t need to have big biceps, but a big heart; your mind has to be tougher than your quads. The rest will follow. The physical attributes—the manifestation of a strong mind—will be seen in a strong body. It will never be the other way round...I think you have to think fit, believe fit”Shahrukh Khan from his foreword to the book

As one of the country’s foremost fitness experts and trainer to some of India’s fittest, hottest and most successful people for over 15 years, Deanne Panday knows the secrets to a healthy lifestyle.  And in Shut up and Train she lays out the methods to help us all gain not muscles and six-packs but overall wellbeing, having more energy to do day-to-day tasks more effectively and to stop ageing in its tracks.
She argues that to achieve this diet, exercise and mental attitude all play their part but the basis of it all is weight training.  If you want your body to be fit and injury free, your muscles to be strong, your bones to be healthy, and your organs to be in good shape, you need to train with weights.
“Being fit is a way of life for me, the foundation of what makes me strong and resilient...I can manage all life throws at me without a dip in my energy by being disciplined and following a balanced approach to life, just like our ancestors. It’s a lifestyle that is available for you too if you go about it the right way.   In the years that I have managed to cultivate this disciplined lifestyle, my most treasured formula has been weight training.  Not only has weight training made me stronger, it has helped me understand every muscle in my body. It keeps my immune system in top gear. I sleep better, and I have more energy during the day. It has enabled me to handle whatever is thrown my way.”

Through Shut Up & Train, Deanne Panday will guide you through the right methods, the right kind of education of your body, and also the steps that you need to follow for this foolproof method to work. This comprehensive book provides you with a blueprint to a fit and healthy body.

As Deanne says, ‘It’s time to SHUT UP, and get ready to TRAIN!’
